Billie Jo Peterson and Linda Knowles will be offering a pottery class this summer, “The WABI Way of Raku Pottery” at the Art Association of Oswego. Instruction will be given on wheel throwing and hand building. Students will have 2 class days in which to throw or hand build the majority of their larger Raku forms. The third class will involve applying terra sigillata, cleaning the “green-ware” and making any smaller pieces. Glazing and Raku firing will happen the last day.

  • Age and/or skill level: beginner to advanced
  • Class size limit: 10
  • Dates & Times: Mon and Thurs 7/22, 7/25, 7/29 from 1:00-3:30 PM and Thurs 8/1 from 9:00 AM until firing is finished (4-6 hours).
  • Location: AAO – Fort Ontario Complex (north end of E 4th St), Oswego.
  • Cost: $69 for AAO-Members; $81 for non-members; plus $25 materials fee.  (Included in the materials fee: 12 lbs. of raku clay, raku glazes, terra sigillata, horse hair, clay tools, glaze brushes, electric kiln for bisque firing, tools and materials for raku firing, gloves, and safety glasses.)

  • Students should bring: Any clay tools you already have and clothes you can get dirty! The day of the firing please wear or bring; long cotton pants, closed toe shoes, long sleeved shirt and something to tie your hair back with. Optional; lawn chair, hat, sunglasses, bottled water.

Pre-registration & pre-payment is required. We cannot hold a class at these costs unless we have a minimum of 4 students. If the class is cancelled due to low enrollment, your entire payment will be returned.
