The Art Association of Oswego announces the opening of a new art exhibition at the Oswego Civic Arts Center this weekend. Entitled Achromatic, the show is an invitational exhibition of the recent work by CNY artists in a variety of black and white media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, printmaking, sculpture and digital art. The show will open with a public reception at the Arts Center on Saturday, October 5th from 7-9 pm.  This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

“The caveat for this show is that all work has to be black and white and gray,” says AAO exhibition coordinator Bill DeMott. “The idea for the show came from AAO president Laurie Kester. We are all thrilled about showcasing the glory of black and white. We hope that entering the gallery might be like walking into Pleasantville (a reference to the 1998 movie that is set in a world devoid of color).”

DeMott goes on to say that “An achromatic approach gives the show an automatic unifying factor, and an instant sense of nostalgia. We are excited that–since color is not a part of the equation–the focus will be placed on lines and shapes, textures and tones, the elements of design that are often underappreciated.”

The exhibit will be on display until Sunday, November 3rd. The Oswego Civic Arts Center is located at the northernmost end of East 4th street in Oswego, directly across from Fort Ontario. Regular gallery hours are from 2-5 pm on weekends or by appointment. Group tours are encouraged. For further information please send an e-mail to the contact listed below.
